Celebration through Healing, Sharing & Ceremony
The Tracing Roots of Peace event is a contemporary message of peace and fellowship in a time of turmoil and uncertainty. It will be conducted at at the base of Song Mountain, known to some as the land of the Peacemaker. Haudenosaunee (Iroquois). Legend tells of Hiawatha wandering this land for months grieving the loss of his daughters. It is said that while grieving at Song Lake, he took notice of the beautiful purple and white shells known as Wampum. As the birds flew from the water his grief lifted with them- realizing he needed to forgive in order to find be peace in his heart.
Collecting the beautiful purple and white shells, Hiawatha strung them on a piece of sinew. As he ascended the mountain, the Peacemaker came to him and spoke of each shell and the process of healing. As the Peacemaker sang a song of grief, he wiped Hiawatha’s eyes so he could see clearly again, his ears to hear the Creator once more, his throat so he could breathe without grief, and his heart to allow him to love again. As Hiawatha’s love returned, he descended the mountain with the Peacemaker and, together with Jikonsahseh Mother of nations, they prepared to share the messages with all who were ready.
Our world of today is in need of hearing these messages of peace and forgiveness.
As The message of Peace spread to all the People across the land, the fighting ended and the Five Nations created a unified government known as the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) Confederacy. It was this Democratic system which inspired the formation of Declaration of Independence for the United States Government.
Harmony spread through the longhouse, and it was now that the Peacemaker stepped forward to Plant the Tree of Peace for all. It was his message that every weapon carried by one, was to buried beneath the tree, seen by all. The weapons of self destruction and annihilation were never to be used again.
He spoke that the roots would reach out in all four directions, leading all people, regardless of background or belief, to the message he brought. If you truly seek peace in your heart, following the roots of the message would lead you home to your center, to shelter, to the peace that you seek inside yourself.
It is in this Message that we base our TRACING ROOTS OF PEACE CELEBRATION. As People from all directions feel the pull to come together and celebrate culture, dance, music, food and the message of peace.
